Basest Beggars was an English Touring Opera project for secondary schools in Barnet. Three schools took part: St Mary’s High School, Friern Barnet School and Finchley Catholic School. Some 80 children performed in the final show at artsdepot in Finchley in January 2011. Based on King Lear, the project explored themes of money and generosity, generational conflict, and the brutality of selfishness.
