Curado

Antonio Goncalves Curado was the first Portuguese soldier to die in the World War One. Decades later, in the early 70s, new colonial wars erupted in Africa, in Angola and Mozambique. Some disabled survivors of those wars took part in Curado, a work that retold many of their astonishing and harrowing stories. With the help of young professional musicians, and dancers from Balleteatro, these men and women re-enacted stories that for many years were suppressed.

The piece was commissioned for the 40th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution in Portugal, and the introduction of democratic systems. The piece was performed in Casa da Musica in April 2014.
